Meet “White Lotus, Resilience,”an expression of rising above adversity. The gorgeous white lotus flowers greeted me every morning while at my artist friend, Lisa P. Young’s, studio in Florida. It is in Stuart, where I got to raise two amazing humans, teach art, and work as a local brand communications consultant for over 15 years.
I get to stay here and tend to the beautiful butterfly garden with the bonus of cat therapy. For this ArtVenture, I decided to just bring my watercolors. Missing my oil paints, and yearning to paint this beauty large, I was able to do a sweet barter with a fellow artist for paints and canvas, and use some of Lisa’s acrylics. I always find switching mediums a delightful adventure in itself, yet to express this majestic flower blooming was an enriching and healing experience through some recent grief and preparation for a Master’s program this fall. (More on that later, University of Washington – here I come!).
The White Lotus meaning has long cultural roots in resilience and spirituality. Spending time sensing this flower’s wisdom and love helped me regain some balance amidst the odd sensations that emerged from two epic events. First, the celebration of acceptance to UW, then the loss of my mother in law of 28 years (my husband, her only son, passed just 18 months ago). So here I am….allowing nature and art to rescue me, heal me, soothe me. Both are remedies to create harmony amidst any discord around us. I hope you enjoy this white lotus’ glow of resilience.
Like the lotus, we all can emerge from the bottom of the pond stronger and glowing.
Relax, breathe and know nature loves you, nurtures you and teaches you. (And, yes, that is what my Master’s degree is all about; becoming an agent for change and sustainability solutions by recovering our connection with nature and art – creating harmony and well-being for people and planet). Please follow along and let’s learn how to harmonize with ourselves, others and our planet, one moment at a time.
Love, pH
